Unable to get work on Broadway, Vera Parks is forced to manage a small town Christmas pageant in upstate New York. Vera is stunned by the production's simplicity and is persuaded by other people to give their community a try. Vera gets fond of the small town's warmth and charm, and even enjoys managing the pageant. Vera is enraged to learn that her ex-fiancé Jack recommended her for the position.
