Stephen Lewis, a prominent children's book author, finds himself in the unthinkable situation of losing his only kid, four-year-old Kate, in a supermarket. Stephen discovers that his daughter is no longer alive in a terrifying event that replays itself over the years that follow. Stephen and his wife are on diametrically opposed paths as they each deal with a consuming sadness as a result of Kate's disappearance.
