Frédéric Lansac, an artist and botanist, has a wild romance with party girl Moira, but dumps her when he meets the beautiful Anne. Frédéric and Anne wed, but tragedy ensues when Moira arrives at the wedding reception and causes Anne to tumble into the blaze. Anne and Frédéric barricade themselves in his mansion with his attendants, two dumb dwarfs. Anne obviously grows resentful and demanding. Frédéric informs everyone that Anne has passed away, before hiring a nurse to care for her in secret.
