Air Force Project Scoop's Project Scoop head declared a state of emergency when Piedmont, New Mexico, inhabitants were found dead following the return to Earth of a space satellite. At the same time that they are trying to figure out how two people from Piedmont, one of whom is an elderly alcoholic, and another who is six months pregnant managed to survive, a team of distinguished scientists, lead by Dr. Jeremy Stone, race to an isolated laboratory.
