Seen-it-all Frank Keller is an uneasy detective in New York. He has been on the force for twenty years and could retire, but he hasn't gotten over the fact that his wife left him for a coworker. When he teams up with an officer from another part of town to look into a series of murders that are linked by the lonely hearts columns, he finds that he is getting involved with one of the main suspects, Helen, in a serious and possibly dangerous way.
