On a cross-country trip in1958, two adolescents take their prized hopped-up Chevy to compete in the National Championship Drag Racing Championships in California. They meet a lovely but dingy waitress who quits her job and jumps in their car, a bunch of town punks who lose to them and then accuse them of cheating, and a local cop obsessed with putting these two "juvenile delinquents" in jail.
