Bill Lancing, a Vietnam veteran and retired federal agent who now works on a wildlife refuge in northern Alaska, has been exchanging letters with Irina Morawska, an orphaned girl in Poland whom he is sponsoring financially through his organization, the Billy Ray Lancing Foundation. The letters from Irina cease to arrive for no apparent reason, and Billy travels to Poland to find out why. There, he discovers that the orphanage where she was staying, which is financed by honest — and unsuspecting — good-intentioned Samaritans, is actually serving as a cover for a human trafficking network.
