While looking to his pigeons and conducting errands at the docks for Johnny Friendly, the corrupt boss of the dockers union, Terry Malloy fantasizes of becoming a prize boxer. Johnny Friendly is a crooked boss. Terry sees two of Johnny's goons commit a murder, and after meeting the victim's sister some time later, he begins to feel responsible for the man's passing. She then brings him to Father Barry, who attempts to coerce him into providing the courts with information that will bring down the racketeers operating at the docks.
