Wyatt Earp and his brothers Morgan and Virgil ride into Tombstone, leaving their cattle herd in the care of their brother James. When they returned, they discovered their cattle had been stolen and James had died. Wyatt becomes town marshal, appointing his brothers as deputies, and vows to stay in Tombstone until the killers of James are apprehended. He soon encounters Doc Holliday, the brooding, coughing, hard-drinking cowboy, as well as the sullen and vicious Clanton clan.
