Kelsey Grammer portrays Nick St. Nicholas, a Miami-based playboy benefactor who is ready to marry the woman of his dreams, attractive TV weathercaster Heidi Gardelle, in this romantic comedy (Elaine Hendrix). That the prodigal St. Nicholas is actually the son of none other than Santa Claus (Charles Durning)—or, as the jolly old elf is known in this narrative, Nicholas XX—is a secret that the general public is unaware of. Nick, who is expected to take over the "family business" at the North Pole before his father's clout begins to wane, instead chooses to remain in Miami, where he is set to launch his next charity at the behest of his girlfriend, Heidi. Nicholas (Colin Cunningham) discovers that his "dream girl" is in fact a mercenary nightmare and finds himself hounded by an enraged INS agent (Colin Cunningham) and plagued by remorse over the bleak future that awaits his father and the North Pole toy factory.
