Based on the true story of Nazi investigator Simon Wiesenthal's 1962 prosecution of the head of a Polish manufacturer who he later discovered to be a cruel labor camp commandant, the film is based on the novel. If he wants to bring him to justice, he must first find witnesses who will cooperate with him. This brings him to Max Rosenberg, a man who is still haunted by the loss of his wife, Helen, in the concentration camps. Max first refuses to cooperate, but his story eventually unfolds, beginning long before the Holocaust.
