Paula Nelson travels to Atlantic City to meet her lover Richard Politzer, but she discovers him dead and proceeds to explore his passing. In her hotel room, she encounters Typhus, whom she ultimately knocks unconscious. His body is later discovered in the flat of author David Goodis. Paula is detained and questioned. Thereafter, she encounters numerous gangsters.
