Missie and Willie Lahaye's continuous Westward trip is depicted here. Now that their roots have been firmly planted as they establish a homestead in the far West, Missie is beginning to realize her passion for teaching while Willie looks after the couple's little daughter Kathy and works to grow the family ranch with a little assistance from sons Jeff and Matthew. Suddenly, the joy of Missie's father Clark's long-awaited visit is overshadowed by the tragic death of young Kathy, who died when the frontier train came to town. Missie and Willie are torn apart by the untimely death of their darling daughter, and the grieving father unexpectedly accepts an offer from the powerful Samuel Doros to take on the post of town sheriff, causing the couple to become estranged. Mistrusting God and their previously close-knit family unit abruptly shattered, Missie and Willie scramble to resurrect their dissolving family as son Jeff experiences a succession of perilous situations while falling head over heels in love with Doros' gorgeous daughter Colette.
