His emotionally unstable single-fantasy father's baseball obsession and romantic life make James' life in MoVal, a multicultural suburb of Los Angeles, unbearable. A wild boy, Abe, and James' antics attract unfavorable attention, much to the anger of their weird, strict administrator, Mr. Durante, who is now in his tenth grade year at Vista Christian High School. But Abe's outlandish antics are damaging James' prospects with Carla, a lovely Latina. Principal Durante punishes the couple by making them lead the weekly chapel service.
