Emily "Jacks" Jackson, who is flighty, works for the British edition of Vogue magazine. Instead of pursuing a romantic relationship, Jacks often meets up with her dedicated ex-boyfriend, James Wildstone, and cohabits with gay author Peter Simon. When Jacks meets Argentinian photographer's assistant Paolo Sarmiento, she assumes he is gay and attempts to introduce him to Peter, ignorant that Paolo is heterosexual and in love with her.
