Local Color
A successful artist recalls fondly the summer of his defining year, 1974. A gifted but troubled 18-year-old aspiring artist encounters an older brilliant alcoholic painter who has abandoned not only painting but also life. The two establish what looks to be an ad hoc friendship at first. The child desires to discover all the mysteries the master has concealed within his mind and heart. The passage of time has not been kind to the elderly master. His life becomes meaningless until the child reawakens his interest in his work and ultimately restores his drive to live. They exchange a priceless present with one another. The child develops an ability to view the world via the master's eyes. And the master rediscovers the ability to perceive life through the eyes of innocence once more. This is a true story.
