Johnny Got His Gun
A mortar round strikes Joe, a young American soldier, on the last day of World War I. He lies in a hospital bed as a quadriplegic amputee who has lost his arms, legs, eyes, ears, mouth, and nose. His condition is worse than death. Unbeknownst to his doctors, he stays conscious and able to think, reliving his life through bizarre dreams and memories while being unable to discern between waking and dreaming states. Joe continues to be frustrated by his circumstances until he discovers a novel method of communicating with his caregivers.
