Mrs. Madame Raquin, her overbearing aunt, enslaves a young woman named Therese into a loveless marriage with the sickly Camille in the year 1860. She works behind the counter of a small shop during the day and spends her evenings watching Madame play dominos with a diverse group of people in the evenings, Laurent, her husband's seductive friend, is introduced to her and she begins a clandestine romance with him, which has tragic results. Thérèse Raquin is a novel by Emile Zola that is the inspiration for this film.
