Jesse is approaching her 15th birthday, and the only thing she wants for her birthday is a horse. Unbeknownst to Jesse, her mother Brandy is battling cancer, which is causing Jesse's father to face unexpected challenges. He enrolls Jesse in summer camp, but when summer camp fails to materialize, he decides to have her stay with her estranged grandfather, an old gruff horse trainer named Gauff. Gauff, who is still grieving the loss of a special horse named Grace, is now confronted with the difficulties of teen negotiating. Gauff realizes he must swallow his pride and beg forgiveness from his daughter Brandy.
