Nathan Detroit, a professional gambler, has a limited number of possibilities for where to hold his big craps game. Nathan bets Sky Masterson that Sky will be unable to get virtuous Sarah Brown out on a date in order to get $1,000 to compensate a garage owner who will host the game. Despite some opposition, Sky is able to negotiate a date with her in exchange for helping her recruit others for her quest. Meanwhile, Nathan's long-term fiancée, Adelaide, wishes for him to take the plunge and marry her legally.
