Almost at the border of Dunkirk, we're in a small English village. Grief has turned "Mr. Tom" Oakley into a reclusive hermit after the death of his wife and little boy while he served in the Navy during WWI. Now, the number of children who have been evacuated from London is overwhelming the number of volunteers who are trying to lodge them. Mr. Tom takes in a terribly quiet 10-year-old, practically against his will, who eventually shows serious issues.
