American soldiers are executed by Japanese soldiers in Borneo during World War II. One of them, an American, escapes and becomes the leader of a personal empire among the headhunters in this war story written in the style of Joseph Conrad and Rudyard Kipling. The American doesn't want to join the fight against the Japanese, but when the Japanese attack his adopted people, he goes on a war of vengeance to get back at them.
