Elevator to the Gallows
The feature-film debut of renowned director Louis Malle is an intriguing, modern film noir with the old premise of lovers scheming to murder the husband and make it appear as suicide (reminiscent of The Postman Always Rings Twice). As she leads her young boyfriend down a path that can only lead to tragedy for both of them, Jeanne Moreau provides an outstanding performance, perverse but naive.
