Drunks
Jim is particularly distressed at the start of an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, which takes place every night. This was the first time in seven months that his sponsor had asked him to speak at the meeting. He agreed, but he left immediately afterward. On a dark evening, Jim wanders the streets of his old neighborhood looking for solace in bars and parks where he used to buy drugs. At the same time, the meeting continues, and we hear the stories of other survivors and addicts-some who claim to have wandered in looking for choir practice, and others like Joseph, whose drinking almost killed his child-as they talk about their lives.
