Robert "Tank" begins working with Dr. Magrew, sculpting a puppet for the Doctor to animate using Andre Toulon's work. Robert develops an attraction to Jane, the Doctor's daughter. Without Robert's knowledge, the Doctor is attempting to create a "perfect race" of puppet people. Jane comes across a "matt puppet" belonging to his first assistant. She returns just in time to watch her father, who has been ripped up by the puppets, successfully encase a living human being, Robert, in the puppet he carved.
