As a result of his father's long journey around Europe, William now finds himself in Copenhagen, the birthplace of his father. With Effy, an intern at William's hotel, they set out to discover William's lone surviving relative, who has been missing for some time. Unlike any other woman, Effy challenges William in a way that no other woman has. Despite the growing desire between them both, he is struggling to deal with his family's dark history and the trauma it has left behind.
