Belle
The narrative of Dido Elizabeth Belle, who was the illegitimate daughter of a Royal Navy Admiral and of mixed race, serves as the basis for the musical BELLE. As Belle was brought up by her aristocratic great-uncle Lord Mansfield and his wife, she was afforded some privileges due to her heritage; yet, the color of her skin prohibits her from fully partaking in the rituals associated with her social standing. After being left to wonder if she will ever find love again, Belle falls in love with an idealistic young vicar's son who is determined to bring about change. With her assistance, Lord Mansfield's role as Lord Chief Justice to put an end to slavery in England is shaped as a result of their relationship.
