Abla is a widow and the mother of a daughter who is 10 years old. She strives to make ends meet while also providing her daughter with the best future she can. Following the passing of her husband, she decides to launch a home-based enterprise out of her kitchen, which has a shutter made of metal that can be opened to the outside. She bakes bread from scratch and a variety of traditional Moroccan pastries every day, which she then sells to customers. Abla has aged prematurely because she has cut herself off from life, chosen to live a life devoid of happiness, and sought solace in her profession. She is unable to show love towards her child, thus she has substituted realism for compassion in her parenting.
