A whisper among central Newfoundland's huge woodlands and mill towns. A body discovered on the bank of a river draws together a recluse fur trapper and a heartbroken expectant mother. Scott is lonely and desperate to find meaning in his life. Mona has a strong will but is frustrated by her frailty. As a hesitant dependence develops, the pair finds itself in the midst of violence, answering for the debts of a deceased man. They prepare an escape while being pursued by bandits.
